The Houston Astros had been one of the more flamboyant franchises in baseball until 2000. They had outrageous jerseys, an awesome mascot, and a one of a kind ballpark. Not to mention, on of the greatest 10 year runs in baseball. Though the 10 years didn’t bring home a World Series, it did bring Houston their first NL Championship and some of the best records in baseball. Also, the Astros played the first World Series game in Texas. But after that, everything went downhill.
This one logo (to the left) has changed everything. On Friday, November 2nd, the Houston Astros held what the organization called a Launch Party. You had to have been there to witness the atmosphere. It was amazing. I never knew what one logo could do to a fan base.
I then realized that it wasn’t just the logo that had this fan base pumped up. It was all the history they came with the logo. All the years in the dome and the greats that played in Houston before. It was everything from the past coming back to present time.
While at the Launch Party, Astros fans heard from owner Jim Crane, general manager Jeff Luhnow, and manager Bo Porter. All three of these men addressed the fans, and told us what was coming to Houston, and what to expect. I have no doubt in my mind that the Astros are headed in the right direction. This event truly felt like the Houston Astros franchise was being reborn. It was an absolute blast. I, for one, cannot wait for Spring Training.
