Firstly, I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you and farewell to Brad Mills, Bobby Meacham, and Mike Barnett. As a proud Astros fan and blogger, I cannot thank them for their contributions to this team and great franchise. As of 11:02 Central Standard Time, the club announced the relieving of their duties.
With the Astros lackluster season and the clearing of the front office’s house, this move does not surprise me, nor does it surprise other Astros fans. the club has released no comments of the move, only the announcement of the the move. The Astros will have a press conference at 10 AM CT, the Astros’ clubhouse will remain closed until after the press conference on Sunday morning.
My personal opinion on this, I am crestfallen at the fact that these great men lost their jobs, but that is simply business in this business. I want to extend endless gratitude to Mr. Mills for not publicly ridiculing me on my first professional journalist event, although I did not get to personally meet Meacham and Barnett, I hope these gentlemen find work somewhere in the league and I wish them the best of luck. Arguing this would be completely against the progress the Astros have made thus far, Jeff Luhnow, the new general manager for the Astros is obviously implementing a system that which he feels will generate the best possible team for the young, raw Astros players whom many are still at that age of most prospects in the minors. Luhnow obviously has a plan for this franchise, and most fans would agree that we would be more worried if the Astros had made no moves at all. However you want to call this move, good, bad, or just don’t care, this move is solely for the progress of the team, despite all the good graces these gents have made through out the city and community, the move is just business, and as far as we know, there is no hard feelings between them and Luhnow and the Astros organization.
Once more, thank you to Mills, Meacham, and Barnett, best of luck in your future endeavors.
