Pitches quality starts. Still loses. That’s the way it seems to go for the Astros. No matter how good the Astros pitch, the offense doesn’t back it up. It’s frustrating. The Astros were on the verge of taking a four game series from the San Diego Padres before the closer, Brett Myers, imploded. That was only Myers’ second blown save of the season, but he hasn’t been to sharp as of late. In fact, he almost blew a 5 run lead before the Padres series. As of late though, if the starting pitcher doesn’t throw a complete game every time out, it seems as if it’s going to be a loss for the Astros. It was the exact same way in the Astros – Cubs series this weekend. The Astros only scored 2 runs in the entire series. That’s just sad!Everyone knows the Astros aren’t contenders. Heck, they don’t even have 10 wins on the road yet! I know everyone talks about Houston’s road woes, but the Astros really, really, need to get passed that. Houston is the only team yet to win double digit road games. I, as many, figured the Astros could change that going into the “Friendly Confines” of Wrigley Field. If you believed that, you’d be wrong. The Astros, as stated above, were swept while only scoring two runs in the entire weekend.
By now, every Astros fan knows our beat writer left to join MLB.com. I mean, I’m proud of her. On Alyson Footers last day with Houston, she was asked about the new uniforms for the 2013 Houston Astros. While she didn’t say anything specific about them, she did say “they are real, and they’re spectacular!” While the Astros and MLB can’t release these new uniforms until the end of the regular season, but I’m sure there will be a leak on the internet before then. If you’re like me, you’ve googled these uniforms and found the best possible concepts and have already picked out your favorites. The most any regular actually knows is that they will feature the ever popular blue and orange from the past years.
The Astros, like the rest of the MLB, are a month away from the trade deadline. So far, Houston hasn’t made any moves, but there has been rumors circulating around the Astros. Carlos Lee came out yesterday and said the Dodgers have put out an offer for him, and all he has to do is accept it. If Lee is traded, Houston will receive the Los Angeles Dodgers’ best pitching prospect. Not only that, but LAD will eat Carlos Lee’s entire contract, which was thought to be an issue in trading Lee. Carlos neither accepted nor declined the trade. Like many Astros fans, the Dodgers were tired of waiting and backed out of the trade. Thanks Carlos..
