Root Root Root for the Hooks!

The Double A affiliate for the Houston Astros Corpus Christi Hooks has been on fire, as of late, behind stellar pitching from pitchers Jared Cosart, Jose Cisnero, Arncenio Leon, Jason Stoffel, Erik Abreu, and Brett Olberholtzer. The pitching staff the Hooks have had all time in their short existence, the Hooks have played amazing, lights out ball this season, going on a five game winning streak to improve their record to 10-8 after going on a four game losing streak. Last season, the Hooks were not much to brag about, but in only the first 20 games, they have played better baseball in the start of the season than all of last year. Not surprising though, after new Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow stated that he wants to build the franchise from the ground up, by getting star prospects and having them grow and develop in the farm system. It seems that the initiative is already paying off for Luhnow and company as the Hooks are steam rolling on their five game winning streak, taking three of four from Frisco and taking the first two games from Midland, decimating both offensively and defensively, allowing three or less runs in every game.

Offensively potent for the Hooks, Adny Simunic, Austin Wates, Brandon Barnes, and Jon Singleton, just to name a few, and they are doing amazing for the Hooks, all of them batting well over .300, and their on-base percentage is over .500, with slugging all over .4oo, except for Wates, who is at .431, and Barnes is at .823 slugging. A strong bunch of guys, these group of guys are, and when it rains, it pours, the Hooks are an offensive powerhouse, scoring 110 runs total in just 18 games, averaging 6 runs a game, a high number for any team.

The Hooks sit at third place overall in the Texas League, but second in the South Division behind the Frisco RoughRiders, the Hooks are streaking and there has never been a better time to see the Hooks in Corpus Christi! Not only will you see great baseball from the Hooks, l see the Astros players of tomorrow, today! With the way they have been playing, it seems that the Hooks could possible make a run for the Texas League Championship again, it certainly brings back memories of 2006 where the Hooks boasted a line up that feature future All-Star Hunter Pence. This certainly could be the Hooks’ year, make sure you become a part of it!
